What is VLOOKUP Formula?
VLOOKUP means Vertical Lookup.

VLOOKUP function also supports approximate and exact match, and wildcard (*?).
The syntax of Vlookup Formula in Google Sheet is as follows.
=VLOOKUP(search_key, range, index, [is_sorted])
Vlookup Formula has four arguments
search key:- The value you want to find or see.
range:- The range in which you want to find the value or search key.
index:- The number of the column in the range from which you want to get the value.
is_sorted:- Choose 0 or false for an exact match of the value you are looking for or choose 1 or true for an approximate match.
VLOOKUP Formula Use in Google Sheet

Using Vlookup in Google Sheet, the value from the second column of the same table can be found by combining the value from the first column of a range or data table.
Let us now understand this as an example.
If we are asked to tell how many marks a student named Shiva has scored in Maths. So in this case we will use Vlookup.
Vlookup Formula for this type of data will be.
VLOOKUP Formula in Google Sheet
Type this formula in an empty cell.
=VLOOKUP(“Shiva”,A1:E11,4,0)
or
VLOOKUP(“G6”,A1:E11,4,true)
Understand the example.
search_key :- The value that you want to find or see, so here we have to find Shiva, which is in the student data in which Shiva is written, we will select it. If you want, you can also give the cell address in this argument or you can also select “Shiva” in this way. Like we have selected.
range :- The entire range of data from which you want to find the value or search key. For example, we have chosen A1:E11.
index :- The number of the column from the entire range from which you want to get the value. Here we want to get Shiva’s Maths subject marks. So, in our case, the Maths column is in the 4th column of the student data range A1:E11. So, we will write 4 here.
is_sorted :- For exact match of the value you are looking for, choose 0 or false or for approximate match choose 1 or true. If we want to get Shiva’s exact Maths subject marks here, then we will choose 0 i.e. false.
After doing this, you just have to press the Enter button and then you will see that Shiva’s Maths subject marks will come with the help of Vlookup Formula. Here our result is 68.
