The re-telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s show Ramayana has become memorable in many ways. Telecasted again on DD National after 33 years, the show has set a new world record. Doordarshan gave this information on his Twitter handle. The feat took place on 16 April, where the show garnered 7.7 million record viewers.

The tweet reads – World Records, the re-telecast of the Ramayana on Doordarshan has broken the viewership records worldwide. The show has become the most watched show. Which was watched by 16 million viewers on 16 April.

Significantly, the Ramayana is being re-broadcasted from March 28 on special demand of the public. This is not the first time Ramayana has made a new record. When the telecast was first televised, the show also produced several records of fame and after 33 years history has been repeated once again.

The show of 78 episodes is based on the Ramayana Valmiki Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas composed by Tulsidas. From 1987 to 1988, the Ramayana was the most watched show in the world. As of 2003, the show was named in the Limca Book of World Records in The Most Watched Mythological Serial in the World.
