Every year on 5 September, Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India. Whereas, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on different dates throughout the world. Its main purpose is to honor teachers and make the students aware of education. In India, it is celebrated like a festival. On this day many cultural programs are organized in schools and colleges. Essay and speech competition are also organized. On this occasion, not only teachers, but also students are honored according to their talent. Why is Teachers Day Celebrated on 5 September

On this day, the first Vice-President of the country and the second President Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was born. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in a poor Brahmin family in Tirumani village, Chennai, Tamil Nadu state. His father’s name was Sarvepalli Veerasamiah and mother’s name was Seemamma. Radhakrishna was a brilliant student since childhood. He was fond of reading books. While his ideals were Vivekananda.

In 1902 AD, he passed the matriculation examination. MA in Philosophy from Mysore College in 1908 AD Degree and became the assistant principal of the college of Mysore in 1918. After independence, Radhakrishnan became the first Vice-President of the country. Whereas in 1954 AD, when he became the President of the country, his friends and students came to meet him.

On this occasion, his students expressed their desire to celebrate Teachers’ Day. Radhakrishnan could not refuse him at that time and he said “It would be my pleasure if Teachers’ Day is celebrated on my birthday on 5 September”. Since then, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on Radhakrishnan’s birthday i.e. 5 September. Radhakrishnan died on 17 April 1975.

In Abroad These Days Celebrated Teacher’s Day

Teachers Day is celebrated on this day abroad. In the US, Teachers’ Day has been declared on the Tuesday of the first full week of May and is held there throughout the week.

Teacher’s Day has been celebrated in Russia from 1965 to 1994 on the first Sunday of October. At the same time, from the year 1994, World Teachers’ Day started being celebrated only on 5 October.

National Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on 16 January in Thailand. On 21 November 1956, Teachers’ Day was approved by bringing a resolution here. The first teacher’s day was celebrated in 1957. There is a holiday in schools on this day.
