History of Teachers Day

The birthday of the former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (September 5) is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India. The birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teacher’s Day since 1962. He had expressed his desire to his students to celebrate the birthday as Teacher’s Day. Teacher’s Day is celebrated on different dates in more than 100 countries of the world. The country’s first Vice President Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in a Brahmin family in Tirumani village of Tamil Nadu. He was fond of reading books since childhood and was greatly influenced by Swami Vivekananda. Radhakrishnan died on 17 April 1975 in Chennai. Teachers Day 2021.

When Dr. S. Radhakrishnan became the President of India, some of his students and friends reached out to him and requested him to allow him to celebrate his birthday. He replied that instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be a proud privilege for me if this 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Since then, Teacher’s Day was celebrated on his birth anniversary i.e. 5th September.

Teacher’s Day is Celebrated on This Day in Different Countries

Teacher’s Day is included from China to America, Australia, Albania, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Brazil, and Pakistan. Although the date of celebrating this day is different in every country. For example, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 10th September in China, 6th May in America, last Friday of October in Australia, 15th October in Brazil and 5th October in Pakistan.
