Faqir Chand Kohli, the founder of veteran IT services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has died on Thursday. He was 96 years old. FC Kohli’s full name is Fakir Chand Kohli. Kohli was also the first CEO of TCS. Kohli is also called the father of the Indian software industry. TCS has confirmed Kohli’s demise. Kohli received the Padma Bhushan in 2002 for his contribution to the Indian software industry.

FC Kohli led India’s technology revolution and as the first CEO of TCS helped the country build a $ 100 billion IT industry. Kohli was born on 19 March 1924 in Peshawar. He completed his BA and BSc from Punjab University in Lahore. He then went to Queen’s University in Canada. From there, he completed his BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering in the year 1948.

Kohli was born on 28 February 1924 in Peshawar, Pakistan. He did his BA and BSc from Lahore Government College, Punjab University. He then moved to Canada. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University in 1948. He also did his MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1950. He then returned to India in 1951 and joined the Tata Electric Company. He was appointed director of the company in 1970. He later became the first CEO of TCS. In September 1969, Kohli became the general manager of TCS. In 1994, he became the company’s deputy chairman. In 1991, Kohli worked actively in bringing IBM to India as part of Tata-IBM. He retired in 1999 at the age of 75. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has paid tribute to Kohli on Twitter.
