Creating any website or web page is started with HTML, if we say in simple language, HTML is used to create a simple web page, and then CSS is used to make it better. Used, after which a website is given a good look.

Meaning of Hypertext-

Hypertext is the way by which the web is explored. It is just a simple text. But, Hypertext keeps some other text attached to it. Which is saved by pressing with a mouse click, tap.

Meaning of Markup-

HTML uses “HTML Tags” to create web documents. Each HTML tag defines the text that comes between it in some way. This is called Markup. “” is an HTML tag that italicizes the text coming between it.

Meaning of language-

HTML is a language. Because it uses code words to create web documents. Which are called Tags. And there is also a syntax of HTML to write these tags. Therefore it is also a language. The syntax of HTML is shown below.

History of HTML

HTML was started in 1990 by Tim-Berners Lee — who was working in a French organization as a physicist contractor. Initially, Html language was used for Document Sharing. After some time, Lee finally wrote Browser and Software specifying HTML.

After that, till now only Html language is being used to create web-page. If you learn Html language well then it will be easy for you to make a website. Now because Html is the most used markup language, then the biggest question is, how to learn HTML? So, by now you must have known what is HTML. Now let us tell you how to learn Html language.

HTML

This version was the form of SGML – Standard Generalized Markup Language. HTML is the primary version.

Through this, the text could be structured. Some tags were created for this and this version had no name, it was just called HTML. But the next versions of HTML had names. Therefore, for convenience, this version is also called HTML 1.0.

The HTML tags that were used at this time, some tags still exist today. Which we use while working on HTML.

HTML 2.0

The next version of HTML was named after the primary version of HTML by a group IETF – Internet Engineering Task Force. This version called HTML 2.0 was published in 1995.

Some new features were added in this version, in which ‘Image Tag’ was the most important. But the Internet had not become very popular yet.

HTML 3.0

By this time HTML and Internet had left their mark and both were becoming popular. Now more people had joined it than the initiative. More and more people wanted to learn HTML and also wanted to connect to the Internet.

Therefore, due to the excessive use of HTML, some confusion had arisen in it. People started changing the standard that was set in it. Due to this, its uniformity started ending. Hence the next version of HTML was prepared which was HTML 3.0. But it was never published.

HTML 3.2

By the time HTML 1.0 was published and HTML 3.0 was recommended, an organization had emerged to work for the HTML language. It is known as W3C – World Wide Web Consortium.

The next version of HTML, HTML 3.2, was published by the W3C in 1997 with the recommendations of HTML 3.0. It had more features than both versions of HTML.

Through HTML 3.2, now HTML Documents could be created in more ways. Many new ‘Attributes’ were added in this version, which was more for its ‘style’ than the structure of the document. But, till this time the readers of HTML i.e. ‘Browsers’ were very slow. It still did not support all the features of HTML 3.2.

HTML 4.0

Now Internet had become very popular. More and more people wanted to learn HTML. And those who were already associated with it. They started wanting more than HTML. Therefore, to fill this void, the next version of HTML, HTML 4.0, was published.

And till now ‘Style Sheet’ had also started making its place. So in this version, some more features like; frame, script, stylesheet, etc. were added. And the browsers that read it had also become somewhat advanced now. And could read most of the features of HTML. This was a major turning point in the history of HTML.

HTML 4.01

The next version of HTML was HTML 4.01 which is a revised version of HTML 4.0. It was published by W3C in 1999. Today almost the website remains in this version.

HTML5

The most recent version of HTML is HTML 5. In addition to the features of HTML 4.01, the features of XML have also been added. This version is slowly making its mark. And has become very popular.

Basic Tags of HTML

1. HTML tag – <html>
2. Head tag- <head>
3. Title tag- <title>
4. Body tag- <body>
5. Heading tag- <h1>
6. Paragraph tag- <p>
7. Line break tag- <br/>
8. Centering content tag- <center>
9. Horizontal line tag- <hr>

There are many other tags as well. Which is very difficult to tell in one post. Because now we are giving information about HTML, so here we will tell you the basic things. In our next post Learn HTML in Hindi, we will cover almost all the tags and what is their function, and how to use them. Will give complete information about this.

HTML Tags are Divided into Two Categories:

1. Paired tag – The other name of these tags is the Container tag. Which are used as Pairs. That is, these tags have both Opening and Closing tags.

Example– The opening tag of the Html tag is <html>, and the Closing tag is </html>. Similarly, they are closed by putting forward slash / in front of the rest of the tags. This means to use them properly you have to use both these tags. Only then you will be able to create a web page.

2. Unpaired Tags – These tags are also called empty tags. They do not have any closing tag. The line break tag <br/> comes in this category.

So hopefully, by now you must have come to know about HTML. So let us now learn how to create a basic web page using Html language.

How to Make a Simple Web Page from HTML?

To create a web page from HTML, you have to open Notepad on your computer. You can use Notepad++ for a better coding experience. Now simply understand the method mentioned below.

Example of Basic HTML

<!DOCTYPE Html>
<html>
<head>
<title>What is HTML</title>
</Head>
<body>
<h1>USE of HTML</h1>
<p>Hypertext Markup Language</p>
</body>
</html>

  • Here <!DOCTYPE Html> is a declaration form for the computer. Through this, the computer is told that the document prepared is in Html language.
  • After that, the creation of the web page is started with the Html opening tag (<html>). All other tags come between the HTML Opening tag and the HTML Closing tag.
  • The head tag (<head>) is placed below the Html tag. The title tag (<title>) is placed in between. After writing the title, it is closed with the help of the title closing tag (</title>), then the head tag is also closed with its closing tag (</head>).
  • Now the body tag (<body>) starts. Below this heading and paragraph etc. Heading tag (<h1>), Paragraph tag (<p>) and their closing tag (</h1>) and (</p>) are used for writing. After which the body tag is closed with its closing tag (</body>).
  • Now in the end, with the help of Html’s closing tag (</html>), this entire HTML document is closed.

Now save this entire document. While saving this document, you have to pay attention to some things. For example – Save the file name as .html, Save as a file by selecting All files, and Unicode by selecting ANSI. After saving the entire document in HTML, you can browse and check it.
