Hyundai Venya iMT: Price in India

The company announced Venue iMT a few weeks ago. It is available with a 1.0-liter, direct-injection, turbo-petrol engine with only 120 horsepower. Its initial ex-showroom price goes up to Rs 9.99 lakh for the entry-level SX variant and up to Rs 11.21 lakh for the SX (O) variant with the new Sport Pack.

What is an iMT gearbox?

It is a ‘two-pedal, clutchless system’, a hybrid of manual and automatic gearbox setup. In this system, the driver will still have to shift gears manually, as in a conventional manual gearbox, but no longer need a clutch pedal to shift gears.

According to Hyundai, iMT gearbox technology uses an ‘extension sensor’ with a gear lever to notify a transmission control unit (TCU) about the driver’s gear change. The TCU then signals a hydraulic actuator to attach and discharge the clutch plate whenever the driver changes gears. The 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine on the Venue is already available with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT, so iMT has become the third transmission option for this engine in compact SUVs.

Hyundai Venya Sports Package: Price and Details

  • Along with introducing IMT, Hyundai has also added a sport cosmetic package to the India line-up of Venue SUVs. The Hyundai Venue Sport Pack will be available in SX, SX + and SX (O)) variants, which will be equipped with 1.0-liter turbo petrol or 1.5-liter diesel engines.
  • The Sport Package gets a new dual tone exterior color option, gloss black grille with red insert, dark gray roof rails and front bumper as well as red brake calipers with intake surround and other red accents on the outside.
  • Inside, there is an all-new steering wheel with red stitching for the Venue Sport Pack, similar in Creta, dark gray upholstery with red piping, and red accents around the cabin. The DCT-equipped version of the Venue 1.0 turbo will also get paddle shifters.
  • The Hyundai Venue Sport starts at Rs 10.20 lakh for the SX Sport 1.0 Turbo iMT and the ex showroom price is Rs 11.58 lakh for the SX + Sport 1.0 Turbo DCT.
  • In addition, Hyundai has added a new S + variant exclusively to its base 1.2-liter petrol engine in the Venue, which only comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, compared to the basic model with a number of equipment added to it.

Hyundai Venya iMT: Who will Challenge the Market?

Although neither this is the world’s nor India’s first iMT model, yes it can be called the first in the segment. Interestingly, Kia first announced that it would bring the technology with its Sonnet compact SUV, which would make its global premiere on August 7, 2020. However, Venue has challenged Kia by launching iMT today.
