BMW India launched two 7th-generation cars in the Indian market on Saturday, making a great start in the new year. This includes the flagship luxury sedan 7 Series and the all-new BMW i7, the first electric vehicle. The 7 Series will be locally built at the BMW Group plant in Chennai, while the BMW i7 will be imported to India as a Complete Built Unit (CBU).
Both cars are based on the CLAR platform. Vikram Pawah, President, of BMW Group India, said that the 3.0-liter engine will be introduced in the 7 Series later. Major changes have been made to the design as compared to the current model. The new model sports a bold look with a massive new kidney grille, new alloy wheels, split LED headlamps, and LED taillights. The model comes with a flat bonnet and sharp shoulder line, both of which help in enhancing the presence and feel of the model.
How Much is the Price
The ex-showroom price of the seventh-generation BMW 7 Series is Rs 1.70 crore. Its diesel variant will be introduced later. The all-new BMW i7 is now the company’s flagship electric vehicle in India and has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.95 crore. While the ICE version will be manufactured locally at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai. Whereas, the 2023 BMW i7 will be imported to India as a CBU (Complete Built Unit).
Changes Made to the Interior
The cabin of the new BMW 7 Series and i7 has been changed on the inside. Live Cockpit Plus is available on the dashboard with a dual-screen set-up. It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument console and a 14.9-inch infotainment system. The dashboard in this model comes with an interactive bar with touch-capacitive controls for ventilation and climate control functions.
Safety Features
The 7th generation cars get features like Attention Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hill Hold.
Will Get Many Great Features
Both models offer an optional 31.3-inch 8K theater screen with Amazon Fire TV built-in. Which flips down from the central roof of the front and rear seats. There is also an integrated 5.5-inch touchscreen control panel in the rear doors for a lounge experience.
Other upgrades include leather upholstery, sustainable materials. an 18-speaker 4D audio system, and executive lounge seats with reclining up to 42.5 degrees. massage and seat ventilation, automatic doors, panoramic glass roof, cloud-based navigation, etc.
BMW 740i M Sport: Engine Power & Gearbox
There are many powertrain options available in this car. The car introduced in India has a 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine, which generates power of 376 bhp and peak torque of 520 Nm. The motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW’s 7 Series car will compete with cars like Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8 in the Indian market.
BMW i7 Battery, Range, & Performance
This car has been introduced in India in the top-spec X-Drive 60 variant, which has two electric motors. This motor generates 536.4 bhp and 745 Nm of peak torque. Its electric variant can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 240 kmph.
The i7 is powered by a 101.7 kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-certified range of up to 625 km on a single full charge. In the Indian market, it will compete with Mercedes-Benz EQS. Audi RS e-Tron GT, and Porsche Taycan.
Charger
A 195 kW fast charger is provided with the i7. It can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 34 minutes, which gives a range of about 170 km in 10 minutes. The 11KW AC charger can fully charge the i7’s battery in 10.5 hours. BMW will provide a complimentary wall box charger with every model.
BMW is offering a standard warranty of two years on both cars. While the battery pack gets a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 kms.
